INTRODUCTION |
God’s plan for us in our journey of life is to enter His rest daily and eventually to enter His eternal rest in the new heaven and new earth when we come to the state of perfection, enjoying God and His creation in complete satisfaction. However, this journey will be tested by the Word of God as we live in this fallen world. Although our “modern” world is developing with many conveniences, we still find ourselves lacking time because we are always busy, tired and anxious. The busy life directs our attention away from God. It makes us feel self-important and seek self-satisfaction. It gives a false impression that we are being productive. It empties our souls of the joy and peace of God. The goal of life according to Hebrews 4 is to enter God’s promised rest. Our weekly sabbath is a constant reminder that we are not merely a working machine but are made for rest in God.
